Our family dentists are specialists in treating the unique needs of children. Our pediatric dental specialists at our family dental practice have completed several years of specialty training beyond dental school. They limit their practice to treating the oral health needs of infants and children through adolescence, including those with special health needs.

Children have special dental needs from birth through their late teen years. These special needs require the expert care of a dentist specializing in children’s oral health and development. Our pediatric dentistry services in Houston, Texas at Lovett Dental Meyerland Plaza provide this specialized treatment, ensuring your child’s best chance for an attractive, confident smile.

Infant Oral Health Exams

Periodic oral health exams are important for patients of any age. Infant oral health exams can help us determine the health of your baby’s mouth and teeth and any underlying issues that can be taken care of right away.

Preventative Oral Care

Preventative oral care is critical to keeping your child’s teeth healthy because it helps us detect any issues that can be treated before they become more severe issues later on. This level of care includes fluoride treatments and cleaning with an exam, which should be scheduled at least yearly. Dental exams include diagnostic x-rays, looking for tooth decay, gum disease, and other oral health issues. A dental cleaning involved getting rid of tartar, removing plaque, and polishing the teeth.

Fluoride treatments are another good way to help prevent tooth decay. Fluoride is a mineral that is naturally found in our water and most foods. This natural fluoride by itself is not enough to prevent tooth decay, though. We use two different types of fluoride based on whether or not your child’s teeth are above the gumline. We use topical fluoride to strengthen teeth that have grown into the outer surface of the tooth enamel. In addition, we use systemic fluoride to strengthen teeth that can be seen, as well as teeth below the gums.

Managing Gum Diseases and Other Conditions

Gum disease and other conditions can be monitored by our staff as well. Other conditions include pediatric periodontal disease, short frenulum, ulcers, and mucoceles. The expert team and Lovett Dental Meyerland Plaza have experience assessing and treating all of these conditions and more.

Treating Crooked Teeth

Our pediatric orthodontics department can also treat crooked teeth and over or underbites. This kind of treatment usually involves fitting your child with braces or with a spacer, which slowly but surely corrects the crooked teeth and bite problems.

Diagnosing Oral Conditions

During your child’s dental checkup at Lovett Dental Meyerland Plaza’s pediatric dentistry, we are also able to diagnose a wide variety of oral conditions. This kind of diagnosis is an integral part of our practice, particularly as these conditions may be associated with other diseases like hay fever, diabetes, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), asthma, and congenital heart defects.

At our pediatric dentistry at Lovett Dental Meyerland Plaza, we can also treat dental-related injuries. These injuries include displaced, fractured, or knocked-out teeth. Our specialty services in Houston also include emergency dental services for your child.
